Manchester Jewish Museum Schools visit, Chris Payne 2021

Here, at Manchester Jewish Museum, we give your students playful, engaging and imaginative ways to explore the historic synagogue and stories in our gallery through film making, baking and exploration activities!

Our museum includes a learning studio with kitchen, an educational gallery, as well as a recently restored synagogue, providing the perfect hands-on environment for schools wishing to learn more about Jewish culture.

We are currently offering two half day workshops: Synagogue & Sabbath and Festivals & Feasts. These can also be booked together as one full day, giving your students the full Manchester Jewish Museum experience. These workshops can be adapted for different age groups, so please do get in contact if you’d like to know more about what they involve!

Prices and Booking

  • £150 flat fee per 2 hour workshop for a class of up to 35 students
  • £300 for both workshops (a full day visit) for a class of up to 35 students
  • We can cater for two classes at one time on a workshop (max of up to 70 students). The cost of one workshop for two classes is £300.

 

We are nearly fully booked until the end of Summer for school visits, with only a few workshop times available! We’d love to still welcome you to the museum and are open for Autumn bookings. School bookings must be made a minimum of 4 weeks in advance.

Synagogue & Sabbath workshop

2 hours
£150 per workshop

 

Explore inside one of Manchester’s oldest and most beautiful synagogues as your students learn about the ceremonies and features of a synagogue and explore Jewish traditions such as the Sabbath.

Our Synagogue & Sabbath workshop includes:

  • Looking around inside our 1874 Sephardi synagogue, sit in our pews and learn about parts of the synagogue such the ark, the tebah and Torah scrolls.
  • A scavenger hunt around the museum to do some research for a film, whilst learning about Jewish traditions and rituals.
  • Object handling of Jewish artefacts in our dedicated learning studio.
  • Exploring Jewish identity, working life and what brought many Jewish people to Manchester.
  • Learning about the Sabbath, the Torah, Hebrew and the Ten Commandments.

Festivals and Feasts

2 hours
£150 per workshop

 

Learn about different Jewish Festivals, including Passover, Rosh Hashanah & Channukah, in our Festivals & Feasts workshop.

In this interactive two hour workshop your students will get to:

  • Bake their own challah bread in our brand-new learning kitchen.
  • Taste some different foods, and play games as they learn all about the importance of food in Jewish festivals.
  • Explore our gallery to find out more about the festival of Passover, and why a Passover Seder is so important.

Secondary Learning

Our existing workshops are suitable for most KS3 classes, and we are currently working on ensuring we have a suitable workshop for GCSE students too.

Adult Group Visits

We currently offer a range of group experiences at Manchester Jewish Museum, from self-guided visits to interactive food-based experiences. These packages are still being developed and tested, so your visit will help to us to shape and grow our group experiences.

We can take bookings up to 5 weeks in advance of your visit.
