Key Stage 2 & 3 Learning

Manchester Jewish Museum Schools visit, Chris Payne 2021

Following our multi-million pound redevelopment, Manchester Jewish Museum is thrilled to begin offering our unique schools workshops once more.

Our new museum includes a brand-new learning studio and educational gallery as well as complete restoration of our synagogue, providing the perfect hands-on environment for schools wishing to learn more about Jewish culture.

We are offering two half day workshops from September: Synagogue & Sabbath and Festivals & Feasts. These can also be booked together as one full day, giving your students the full Manchester Jewish Museum experience.

Prices and Booking

  • £150 flat fee per workshop
  • We can accommodate up to 35 students max per workshop

Synagogue & Sabbath workshop

For Key Stages 2 & 3
2 hours: 10am-12pm
£150 per workshop

 

Explore inside one of Manchester’s oldest and most beautiful synagogues as your students learn about the ceremonies and features of a synagogue and explore Jewish traditions such as the Sabbath and Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.

Our Synagogue & Sabbath workshop includes:

  • Looking around inside our 1874 Sephardi synagogue, sit in our pews and learn about parts of the synagogue such the ark, the tebah and Torah scrolls.
  • A detective themed scavenger hunt around the museum to help prepare for a Bar and Bat Mitzvah whilst learning about Jewish traditions and rituals.
  • Object handling of Jewish artefacts in our gallery
  • Exploring Jewish identity, working life and what brought many Jewish people to Manchester
  • Learning about the Sabbath, the Torah, Hebrew and the Ten Commandment

Festivals and Feasts

For Key Stages 2 & 3
2 hours: 12.30pm-2.30pm
£150 per workshop

 

Learn about different Jewish Festivals, including Passover, Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur, in our Festivals & Feasts workshop.

In this interactive two hour workshop your students will get to:

  • Bake their own challah bread in our brand-new learning kitchen
  • Taste some different foods as they learn all about the importance of food in Jewish festivals
  • Gather round our Gallery Communities table as they explore exactly what a Sabbath dinner involves

Secondary Learning

We will be offering workshops for upper KS3 later this year, as well as workshops suitable for those studying R.S. GCSEs.

Adult Group Visits

We can currently accommodate groups of up to 24 per hour (subject to availability) for £5 per person, payment in advance.

Please email tickets@manchesterjewishmuseum.com with confirmed numbers and your preferred date so we can arrange your booking. We can take bookings up to 6 weeks in advance of your visit.

We don’t currently offer catering and guided tours for group bookings, but we will be launching new Groups packages in 2022 which will include food and a guided tour to make the most of your visit.

Museum Groups and Jewish Learning

In 2022 we will be offering opportunities for Jewish communities to come and learn together inside the museum.

In the meantime our community groups are a great way to connect with people, learn new skills and have a great time while engaging with history and culture.

We currently have the following groups which you can join:
