CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

Synagogue Scratch Spring 2024: Call out!

*PAID OPPORTUNITY*
Applications deadline: 12pm on Friday, 26 January 2024

We are looking for Northwest artists to premiere their works-in-progress for our Spring season of Synagogue Scratch events.

Our annual Synagogue Scratch season celebrates new Jewish art in the North West, ranging from debuts and script in hand developmental pieces, to fully formed theatrical work. It’s a series of intimate performances or events, which take place in our historic synagogue. You can read about our 2023 Synagogue Scratch season here.

This Spring we are looking to programme a total of five events/performances as part of the Synagogue Scratch season. These could range from sound, a one-off installation, music, theatre, poetry, dance or performance. We are up for exploring new formats and ideas that explore the space of the synagogue and our collection stories.

So whether it’s a work-in-progress, or in its early stages of development, if you’re a Northwest based practitioner or creative exploring these themes – we want to hear from you!

What we are looking for:

As this year marks the 150th anniversary of our Spanish & Portuguese synagogue, we are especially keen to hear from those of you exploring Sephardi history and culture. However, don’t be put off if your work doesn’t fit into this category. We are also looking for:

1. Work that fits in with our ethos, including the three pillars of our collection, Identities, Journeys and Communities.

2. Events/performances that will generate conversation and intrigue as well as stories that link closely with our collection.

Take a look at the museum’s manifesto and values to get a greater sense of what we are all about:

You will receive the space in kind and a one-off fee of £400 – 500 for your event, workshop or performance. As well as production support from Manchester Jewish Museum’s Creative Producer Elly Lukoszevieze.
