Join us for our oral history walking tour exploring the rich history of Jewish Cheetham Hill!
Cheetham Hill was the historic home of Jewish life in Manchester. Today, traces of that vibrant past remain along Cheetham Hill Road, where building facades, shop signs, and street names tell the story of the businesses, communities, and people who lived here. We are excited to present a new, unique way to learn about this geographic history in our new Oral History Walking Tours.
Part guided walking tour, part dive into our oral history collection, this immersive experience brings Cheetham Hill’s past to life. As you explore the neighbourhood with our guides, you’ll hear first-hand memories from people who lived, worked, and worshipped here, revealing the stories behind the streets and buildings around you. The tour features Synagogues, business, community organisations, and places of recreation.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Your ticket includes:
- A guided Oral History Walking Tour (approximately 1.5 hours), starting at Manchester Jewish Museum
- One hot drink from our café
- General admission to Manchester Jewish Museum, valid for 12 months from the date of purchase
Please note that tickets cancelled within 24 hours of the tour are non-refundable.
Tours begin at 11:00am on the scheduled date. Please arrive a few minutes early, as the group will depart approximately 10–15 minutes after the start time.
The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours and involves walking and standing throughout. There is little or no seating along the route. Portable folding stools are available on request for visitors who would find them helpful and are able to carry them.
Please note that some pavements along the route are uneven, and there may occasionally be minor obstructions. The tour follows a busy main road, so visitors should be aware of traffic noise and the proximity of moving vehicles.
