Join us for an intimate evening of poetry as Ophira Adar presents a specially commissioned piece inspired by the rich and often untold stories of Jewish Manchester – from the community’s 18th-century roots to WWII and beyond.
Drawing on objects and testimonies from our museum’s archive, Ophira’s poetry explores enduring themes of spirituality, migration, identity, longing, and belonging. As part of her residency at the museum, she will also offer personal reflections on her creative process and the historical narratives that shaped her work.
The event takes its title from the poetry of Jewish Manchester writer Louis Golding, whose impact on the city’s cultural history is often overlooked. Ophira’s poetry is in dialogue with Golding, inviting us to rediscover an important figure in our cultural past. Join us for an evening of learning, poetic reflection, and reconnection with the history of Jewish Manchester.
The event will be followed by a Q&A with Ophira.
