COVID-19

What to expect when you visit

We can’t wait to welcome you to our new museum, and it is our utmost priority to keep you and our staff and volunteers safe. For that reason we will be continuing with COVID precautions. Please help us to keep everyone safe by wearing a face covering when indoors at the museum.

Below you can find some information about what safety measures you can expect when you visit. Please note that the situation is changing regularly so please check back here before your visit to make sure you have the most up to date information.

What we’re doing to keep you safe:

  • We are asking all visitors to wear a facemask for the safety and wellbeing of our visitors, staff and volunteers
  • Advance booking for timed entries with limited capacities
  • Recommended route with Manchester Jewish Museum volunteers or staff to help manage numbers in any space
  • Sanitising stations throughout the building
  • Enhanced cleaning regimes including regularly wiping down frequently used touchpoints throughout the day
  • Manchester Jewish Museum staff and volunteers will be wearing face coverings
  • Ventilated air throughout the building
  • Asking all visitors to use NHS Test and Trace upon arrival

Do I need to wear a face mask?

Following government advice all visitors should wear a face covering inside the museum unless exempt.  This applies at all times, except when eating and drinking. If required, single use face masks are available to visitors on arrival.

All museum staff have been provided with clear visors or face masks. Please remember that not everyone can wear a mask or face covering, and the reason for this may not be apparent. Please be respectful of others, whether they are wearing a face covering or not.

Are face coverings available at the museum?

Yes; if required, single use face masks are available to visitors on arrival, with donations encouraged to support the museum.

When is the museum open?

We are open seven days a week. We are open from 10am – 5pm each day with timed admissions every 30 minutes from 10am to 4pm. Our café will be open from 10am to 4pm, serving hot food between 11.30am and 2.30pm.

Do I need to book to visit?

Yes, to make sure we can offer our visitors a safe and enjoyable experience we are asking all visitors to book a timed entry slot in advance where you can select a date and time to visit the museum. This helps us manage the number of visitors at the museum and supports social distancing.

Capacities for each time slot are limited but there will be limited admissions reserved for visitors who are unable to book online who can register on arrival at the museum. We will need all visitors to register as well as check in to NHS Test and Trace.

General admission tickets are available to book up to 4 weeks in advance.

Do I need to print my ticket?

No: you will receive your booking confirmation by email, but please do not print it. Our Front of House Team can check your name from the list of registered visitors at the welcome desk, or you can show tickets on your phone.

We are committed to sustainability and seek to avoid wasting paper wherever possible.

When should I arrive?

Please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before your entry time and you will have a 15 minute window following your entry time to enter the museum. This is for the safety of visitors and staff, ensuring social distancing inside the museum is maintained.

What if I miss my time slot?

If you arrive earlier or later we will do our best to accommodate you but if we reach capacity you may be asked to wait for the next available time slot.

What should I do when I arrive?

When you arrive please check in at the welcome desk and either show your e-ticket or register directly at box office using your full name. Make sure you check into NHS Test and Trace using the app, or if that’s not possible you can fill in a paper form.

Please put on your mask before entering the building (unless exempt) and there will be a sanitising station at the welcome desk. If you have any questions then our welcome staff and volunteers will be happy to help.

Our café is open but will only be available at the end of your visit to enable us to ensure social distancing. Our café stops serving at 4pm.

Should I take a lateral flow test?

We encourage all our visitors to take a Lateral Flow / Rapid COVID test before visiting the museum. You can order them online by clicking here. If you test positive for COVID, are showing symptoms or have come into contact with someone with COVID please don’t attend and email us at tickets@manchesterjewishmuseum.com to let us know and exchange your tickets.

How long does it take to go round the museum?

The full museum experience should take 1 hour 45 minutes including time to enjoy our café and shop at the end of your visit.

Is social distancing in place?

Yes; we are asking all visitors to book a timed entry slot. There is a clearly sign-posted route around the building and our staff and volunteers will be on hand to support social distancing.

Please help us to keep you safe by adhering to the government guidance on social distancing.  Where possible, please your distance from other visitors who are not in your household or bubble and respect their distance.

What if I am concerned about another visitor’s behaviour?

If you are concerned by someone’s behaviour during your visit, please speak to one of our volunteers or staff who will look into it for you and take action if necessary. Please remember that not everyone can wear a mask or face covering, and the reason for this may not be apparent. Please be respectful of others, whether they are wearing a face covering or not.

Will all parts of the museum be open?

The majority of interactives in the our gallery are available, with an enhanced cleaning regime and additional control measures in place to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. Some of our more tactile interactive features will not be currently available. Use of hand sanitiser is encouraged, located at stations throughout the building.

The museum’s content and experiences will be reviewed regularly to identify where any changes need to be made.

What do I do if I fall ill with Covid-19 symptoms within seven days of visiting?

You should not visit Manchester Jewish Museum if you are feeling unwell – tickets can be exchanged by contacting our box office at tickets@manchesterjewishmuseum.com.

If you develop Covid-19 symptoms within seven days of visiting, it is vital you follow the latest NHS Test and Trace guidance so anyone you have come in to contact with can be informed.

We will also follow NHS Test and Trace guidance should any member of the staff team develop Covid-19 symptoms.

When you book to visit we will retain your name and contact details for the purposes of NHS Test and Trace.

Is the café and shop open?

Our café and shop are open until 4pm every day with socially distanced seating and table service.

Can I use cash?

Yes but we recommend using contactless where possible to reduce the need to pass anything between visitors and staff.

Can I bring food and drink?

We ask that visitors only bring bottled water. Food and snacks are available at our café at the end of your visit.
