Do you like to get creative at home? Whether that’s making cartoons, furniture, pottery, prints, fabrics, or clothes? Then we have the group for you!

‘The Crafty Corner’ is a space where you will get to explore, experiment, and express your creative side. Every workshop we will explore a story from the museum’s collection about a trade or craft and create an artistic response to its themes, craft process or medium. There will be opportunities in some sessions to learn from visiting artists and work together as a group to create some amazing crafts – from woodwork to fabrics.

2024 marks the 150th anniversary of our synagogue and as part of the celebrations we will be creating a time capsule to commemorate the stories of our local community and the people who are part of our museum.

This session we will be continuing with our time capsule project! We would love to work with you to create a collaborative textile patchwork piece to go into our time capsule, that expresses the places and things you love about our museum and the local area.

Don’t worry if you didn’t attend last month’s session, anyone can come along and start their patchwork creation. So join us to get in touch with your creative side as we get crafty with fabric through painting, drawing, sewing and collage.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

This group is open to anyone over the age of 18, and to all identities, backgrounds, and cultures. Don’t worry if this is your first-time making crafts, we welcome beginners and seasoned pros – and believe in the power of supporting one another in getting creative!

The workshop is 1 hour and 30 minutes long and there will be refreshments provided.

All materials are included as part of the workshop but do feel free to bring any creations you are working on to share with the group. We’d love to see!

Related Events

This month we’ll be joined by artist Laura Nathan, who is currently undertaking a residency at the museum. Laura will share with us some personal objects, including her grandmother’s needle case brought with her when she came to England in 1939 on the Kindertransport, as well as her own artworks, and explore how her heritage has informed her practice.
Join us this month as we welcome in the Year of the Dragon by making some delicious vegetable dumplings that are traditionally eaten to celebrate the Chinese New Year. We’ll also be looking at how the Jewish community like to celebrate the New Year, known as Rosh Hashanah. Come along to share your New Year traditions and make and eat some delicious food!

Songwriting & Poetry Group

In this session we will be working on a new song, which will go inside our new time capsule to mark the 150th anniversary of our synagogue. We have created a new chorus and will be working out how to weave together verses written by the museum’s different communities. This song will go inside our new time capsule to mark the 150th anniversary of our synagogue. Exciting!
