Come along to our drop in activity , inspired by our temporary exhibition “Maimonides from Scratch”.
Join us in our Learning Studio from 11am to 3pm, for a hands-on creative activity inspired by the remarkable documents of the Cairo Genizah – the archive where the writings of Maimonides were preserved for centuries.
Explore how history was recorded by making your own paper from recycled materials, then stain your handwritten creations with tea and coffee to produce authentic-looking facsimiles. You can also design and illustrate your own comics inspired by the works on display in the gallery.
This relaxed, drop-in activity is suitable for children aged 7 and up, accompanied by an adult.
ABOUT THE TEMPORARY EXHIBITION
‘Maimonides from Scratch’ brings to life the trajectory and texts of Maimonides as a rabbi and doctor and as part of the historical and contemporary Sephardi world. Maimonides from Scratch centres on a series of workshops held at Manchester Jewish Museum and in Marseille with groups of schoolchildren who explored his life through stop-motion animation, storyboarding, and graphic novel design.
