We look forward to welcoming you to our new museum. We connect Jewish stories to the world and to our society, in order to explore both our differences and similarities, and to celebrate that which makes people unique and that which connects us all. We make connections to make things better.
You can now book your visit throughout August using the ‘Book Now’ button on your right.
We are thrilled to reopen this summer with an exciting collaboration with Manchester International Festival and Turner Prize-winning international artist Laure Prouvost. Laure transforms The Ladies’ Gallery of our breath-taking 1874 Grade II* Listed synagogue into an immersive experience where the voices of the past will surround you. Laure’s installation, The long waited, weighted, gathering, will be open to all museum visitors until 3 October 2021. It will be screened every hour from 11am to 4pm with a final screening at 4.45pm.
Our brand-new gallery will take you on a journey through Manchester’s rich and diverse Jewish history, exploring universal themes of Journeys, Communities and Identities. It displays highlights from our “outstanding” collection of over 31,000 items including a selection oral history testimonies that bring the stories of Manchester Jewish migration, communities and people to life.
Our new Journeys Gallery includes a newly commissioned 4-screen immersive film produced by Heritage Interactive and directed by Dan Lusby. Watch an excerpt of the film below:
Our new café serves a contemporary vegetarian kosher-style menu using local produce and authentic Jewish and vegetarian ingredients. Our menu is designed to be a discovery of traditional meets innovative, providing a flavour of Jewish heritage. The café is open from 10am – 4pm daily with hot food served between 11.30am and 2.30pm.
It is our utmost priority to keep you and our staff and volunteers safe when we reopen. To do this we are asking all visitors to book a timed entry slot ticket in advance, so we can manage the number of people in the museum and maintain social distancing to ensure all of our visitors can have a safe and enjoyable experience.
Did you know that if you have booked general admission then your tickets will work as an annual pass for the person booking? This means you can visit the museum again any time within the next 12 months for free! To use your free annual pass, log in to your account when booking your next visit and you will see a free “Annual Pass” option under the ticket price types. Alternatively our welcome desk team will be able to rebook your next visit for you.
