Manchester Jewish Museum Cafe
Jewish Culture Club is a group for anyone who wants to explore contemporary forms of Jewish culture – this could be books, TV, film, fashion, music, art, theatre and much more! The group is open for anyone ages 18 and over, whether you identify as Jewish or are just curious to discover new things. The group meets monthly and it’s a great chance to meet and discuss ideas with new people, explore your own identity and discover new experiences of Jewish stories and culture.
This month we will be discussing an episode of a documentary series ‘Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over’, titled ‘Strictly Orthodox Jews.’ (Series 2, Episode 5). In the series, Stacey Dooley, one of UK’s beloved documentary presenters, spends a night with a different household in each episode as a way of immersing herself into a range of different cultures. In this episode, she spends the weekend at the home of Rabbi Mordechai Wollenberg, his wife Blima and their nine children. Stacey talks to the Wollenbergs about their approach to life, their faith and what it’s like being so visibly Jewish at a time when antisemitism dominates the headlines.
