We are resuming our Creative Activists project and are looking for enthusiastic, creative people, aged 16-30 to join us and work with us towards a special event for Holocaust Memorial Day 2023. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, work with professional mentors and learn new skills, whilst exploring lesser-heard stories from the museum collection.

During this session we will be working with textiles to prepare all stage props and decorations we might need for the final event during Holocaust Memorial Day in January 2023. This workshop will be led by Laura Nathan, a Manchester-based textile artist. Laura has recently discovered her family history relating to Holocaust and her own Jewish heritage. Her textile works are inspired by these discoveries and use old documents, letters and family photographs to tell stories. You can see examples of Laura’s works below, some of them will also be displayed in the museum in January. We also encourage you to visit Laura’s Instagram profile, @lauranathanart, for more inspiration!

As always, no experience necessary. Just bring yourself and an open mind.

What you need to know

This session is part of our regular creative meetings, during which we are working with spoken word, textiles, music and performance to uncover hidden stories and explore how Holocaust continues to affect people to this day.

The meetings are informal, with tea, coffee and a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. Don’t worry if you’ve missed the previous sessions. You can still join us and be a part of our final event in January 2023!
