This September we are resuming our Creative Activists project and are looking for enthusiastic, creative people, aged 16-30 to join us and work with us towards a special event for Holocaust Memorial Day 2023. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, work with professional mentors and learn new skills, whilst exploring lesser-heard stories from the museum collection.

During our fourth session this autumn we will be working on creating some written content for the final performance during Holocaust Memorial Day. There will be a lot of creating writing activities, which will involve looking at how to creatively respond to the stories from our collection.

This session will be led by Becky Prestwich. Becky is a regular writer on Holby City and Doctors. She has written four Afternoon Dramas for BBC Radio 4 (one of which, Just the Three of Us, has been nominated for The Tinniswood Award 2021 for Best Audio Drama), has written for BBC3 and has an original crime drama in development with Lime Pictures. As a playwright, she specialises in work with community casts and in non-traditional theatre spaces, including Chip Shop Chips (Box of Tricks Theatre) and Under the Market Roof (Junction 8 Theatre). Her community play for the reopening of the Bolton Octagon has now been reimagined as an audio piece and recorded by the Young Octagon actors.

What you need to know

This is the fourth session of our regular creative meetings, during which we will be working with spoken word, textiles, music and performance to uncover hidden stories and explore how Holocaust continues to affect people to this day.

The meetings are informal, with tea, coffee and a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. Don’t worry if you’ve missed the first three sessions. You can still join us!
