This summer we are thrilled to have launched a very special song-writing project in Cheetham. Our ambition is to write a collection of songs about different experiences of arriving in the area. From descriptions in our oral history collection of Jewish refugees arriving in the 1930s to collecting contemporary stories of arriving with Cheetham’s communities, we are exploring what we do to find a sense of belonging having travelled often great distances.
We are being helped on our musical journey by Cheetham-born opera singer Peter Brathwaite and composers Na’ama Zisser and Joe Steele. Our group is open to anyone who would like to join us in some singing and song-writing. You don’t need musical experience or to play an instrument, you just need to love music! We meet monthly at Trinity United Church Hall on Cheetham Hill Road. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
