Key Stages 1-2

Curriculum Links to: R.E., Citizenship, History and Art & Design

Duration (1 hour, 45 mins)

Discover how a synagogue works and what the term 'sacred' means in this fun-filled, educational session. Children will become 'museum detectives' as they are asked to find and draw sacred Jewish objects from the museum displays. Children will learn about and try on various sacred items of clothing (kippah, tallit, teffilin) and will take part in a 'mock' Jewish service inside the oldest synagogue building in Manchester. By the end of the session, children will have learnt how synagogues work and what 'sacred' means to Jewish people – they will have even learnt how to write their name in Hebrew!
