Holocaust Memorial Day at Manchester Jewish Museum January 27th 2010
The Legacy Of Hope”
Speaker-Yisrael Abeles-Holocaust survivor
This year the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day is “The Legacy of Hope”. We seek to draw positive messages from the Holocaust and apply them to life in Britain today. To assist us in this Manchester Jewish Museum is pleased to announce that Holocaust survivor, Yisrael Abeles, will be speaking at the Museum.
Yisrael was born in Kapuvar in North West Hungary, in 1930. He was caught up in the lightening speed at which the Holocaust occurred in Hungary and was transported to Auschwitz in 1944. He was liberated from Althammer in January 1945. After he spent some time in Displaced person camps and having returned to Hungary for a while he emigrated to Britain in September 1949. He married ten years later. He now has four children, 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
His story is a heartening one of personal survival and family re-birth. A true example of hope born out of the ashes.
