In the run up to Holocaust Memorial Day pupils from Broadoak High School, Partington, will take part in three sessions studying topics around the Holocaust. They will study Jewish life before and after WW2, the Lodz Ghetto, the camps, immigration into the UK and the legacy of the second and third generation of Holocaust survivors.
After visiting Manchester Jewish Museum and Imperial War Museum North, pupils will have a final session with Holocaust Artist Caroline Slifkin, where they will explore concepts which they have studied and they will be encouraged to express their thoughts in photos. Each group will receive a word or phrase linked to the Holocaust and they will be asked to interpret this. They will be shown images of photography taken during the Holocaust, in order to demonstrate the power of such photographs. The resulting pupils' photos will form an exhibition to be shown at the school and at Manchester Jewish Museum (alongside the International Peace Quilt).
