The Cheetham Festival comes to Manchester Jewish Museum on Sunday September 9th 2012.
This multi-faith festival is in its ninth year and coincides with English Heritage’s Heritage Open Days and the Bnei Brith European Day of Jewish History and Culture.
Visitors will be able to see our exciting temporary Exhibition “Playing The game” which celebrates the achievements of Jewish sports personalities, both local and national.
In this former synagogue you can experience the atmosphere of a synagogue without the restrictions of being in a working synagogue.
12:00 midday : There will be kosher food available.
2.00 pm “The Call of the Shofar”:
There will be a demonstration of Shofar blowing. The Shofar is a Ram’s Horn that is
blown at Jewish New Year. This year it begins in the evening of September 16th. There will be a short talk explaining why the Shofar is blown. This will be followed by a demonstration of Shofar blowing. You can even join in!
