The Holocaust – Survivor Stories

The Session
Using a range of source material students will explore the stories of Holocaust survivors. This session will give pupils the chance to explore the stories of Holocaust survivors through videos, images, objects and activities. Pupils will develop their skills of historical enquiry while reflecting on the personal stories of local people who survived the Holocaust.

By the end of the session pupils will:

  • Have listened to the personal stories of people who survived the Holocaust
  • Discussed who was responsible for the Holocaust
  • Reflected on the current relevance of the Holocaust

In this session pupils will explore the story of four Holocaust survivors:

  • Chaim Ferster- Concentration Camp Survivor
  • Gina Bauer- Kindestransport
  • Peter Kurer- Refugee
  • Helen Taichner- Spent the war in hiding

Preparation
Background knowledge of the Holocaust would be useful but not essential.

Size of Group
We can accommodate a class of up to 40 pupils per 2 hour session in the museum. (20 pupils minimum).  If you would like to bring up to 80 pupils we may be able to arrange a full day visit.  To find out more please contact Andrea Donner – learning@manchesterjewishmuseum.com

Cost
£3.50 (including VAT) per pupil
Free for accompanying adults
A non-returnable £10 admin fee is required.

Duration
2 hours

Session Times
Morning sessions – 10am – 12pm (Monday-Friday)
Afternoon sessions – 12:30pm – 2:30pm (Monday- Thursday)
